We often forget the legacy of physical fitness and JFK. Even as a child, I remember the push for fitness in schools, based on JFK’s focus on fitness. Even during post WWII and the Korean war, there was concern about fitness. Dwight Eisenhower, as a military man noted that the new draftees were “soft” and not very physically fit. Even in the 50’s kids in the US were more out of shape than peers in other countries. We have NOT come a long way – in fact, we are slipping harder – no thanks to phones, computers and TV.

As I hum that brain worm – Go You Chicken Fat – Go Away... I’ll always remember that song that played on every rainy day when we couldn’t go outside to play. Take a moment, get up and go play. Go Chicken Fat!
